USAA Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Review

4.7 from 3 reviews

USAA offers mechanical breakdown insurance, though it comes from a third-party company called Assurant Solutions. It is called Extended Vehicle Protection and can cover things like engine repairs, brake repairs, transmission repairs, exhaust repairs, and technical components in your vehicle. You will need to take a look at policies offered and select the one that best fits your needs. Make sure you look over any insurance policy you purchase to see what it does or does not cover.

As a company, USAA is known for excellent customer service, great plans, and a fantastic team. USAA only offers insurance policies to people who are in or have been active in the military and their family members. Here are some of the pros and cons of getting mechanical breakdown insurance from USAA.

Pros and Cons

Keep in mind that the mechanical breakdown insurance policy that you are looking for through USAA is called Extended Vehicle Protection. It is provided by a third-party insurance company called Assurant Solutions, which some people will claim is a positive and others as a negative. There are a few limits to getting insurance through USAA, including a limit of 115,000 miles on the covered cars odometer. As soon as your vehicle surpasses this number or the number of miles provided by the company, insurance will no longer be provided. In addition, your car must be less than ten years old.

The plans that are offered, however, are high quality. Roadside assistance is covered, up to $100, as well as alternate transportation and travel reimbursement. Supplemental transportation is covered up to $250 per occurrence, and for travel reimbursement, policyholders are covered up to $300 per occurrence. This is included in your Extended Vehicle Protection plan.

Unfortunately, USAA is only offered to people who are or have served in the military, as well as their families.

Coverage From Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

There are a few things that you will want to keep in mind whenever you get an insurance plan. Most auto insurance companies offer multiple choices when it comes to deductibles. The lower the deductible, the higher the monthly cost for the insurance policy. You will want to make sure that you can afford the deductible if an emergency occurs.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance can be fantastic to have and allows you to spread your risk across multiple months. Paying a monthly fee for Extended Vehicle Protection can be a lot less stressful than spending $3,500 in sudden expenses to fix a major car damage. For some people, this is the best choice to make. Variables to consider include how much money you have on hand to pay for a major car repair, the age of your vehicle, and how prone the car you are driving is to breakdowns.

Competent and ready to get things done. I wish the VA worked as well as USAA does.
